If you’re subscribed to our YouTube channel, you may have seen that I recently started up a new series - 10X Your Money With Sports Cards. In Episode #1, I briefly mention that I’m going to be basing a lot of my decisions on something that one of my favorite YouTubers / Businessmen / Card Owners has often preached. Patrick Bet-David, owner of the Valuetainment YouTube channel, has always said that he won’t make an investment unless there’s a real possibility of doubling his money. Well, that theory came to fruition two days ago, as PBD sold both of his Wayne Gretzky rookie cards for a total of over $2 million!

The O-Pee-Chee version of the Wayne Gretzky rookie card was a record-setting sale, becoming the first hockey card to sell for over $1 million. The Topps version wasn’t far behind either, netting a cool $720,000 at auction.
Hockey cards have long been seen as the “forgotten one” of the four major sports, with basketball, football, and baseball all sharing the collective spotlight. This sale has to get hockey collectors excited, as it brings a huge amount of attention to the sport and shows that there is some real money to be made in the hockey card market.
Congrats again to Patrick Bet-David on the huge sale, and thank you all for reading!
See you next week,
Ryan
thanks for sharing!
